This week's A+ Athlete is Alexis Jackman of Sherman High School. Alexis is a 3 starter for the volleyball team, where she has received Academic All District Honors in each of the last 2 years, and has been named the captain of the team this year, leading her teammates on and off the court.
"It's an honor to have students like that represent your program," said Sherman head volleyball coach Ashley Aleman. "She's one of the best students in this school, that walks these hallways, and she represents volleyball well. As a coach, it makes me proud."
"I have had to work a lot to get where I am today," said Jackman. "It has taught me that I have to work hard in order to achieve what I want to in life."
She may be a standout on the volleyball court, but in the class room is where she really shines. She currently has a 4.2 G.P.A., she's number 2 in her class, she is enrolled in AP classes, and she is the Concert Master of Chamber Orchestra.
"I think Alexis aspires to greatness," said Sherman Orchestra Director Melba Avila. "She maybe doesn't know yet what that greatness is going to be, but she's got it in so many topics. She is great with academics, she's a wonderful musician, and she's a fantastic athlete as well."
"It makes me feel like I've done something with my life," said Jackman. "It just makes me proud of myself when I work hard, and see that I can do things, and it's great to be well rounded."
When she's not coming down with a powerful kill, leading her Orchestra, or making straight A's, Alexis spends her free time volunteering with her church around the Sherman Community.
