This week's A+ Athlete is Katy Claytor of Collinsville High School. Katy is a multi sport athlete, playing basketball, volleyball, and softball.
On the basketball court Katy is a two time 1st team all district player, and the team defensive MVP.
She's a all district outfielder in softball, and she was the setter of the year for the lady pirates as a sophomore. If there's a competition to be played, you can bet Katy will be ready to go.
"I don't think it's much of competing against everyone else as much as it is competing with myself," said A+ Athlete Katy Claytor. "If I know I can do better, and I know that I can achieve more, then I want to do it."
"She just continues to get better. Her game matures, her motivation matures, her leadership matures, and that's just the kid you want 50 of," said Collinsville volleyball coach Melissa Johnson. "I can always depend on her to give 100%. I never had any doubt that when she walks off the court that she's left it all in the court."
Katy can do it all in athletics, but she can also do it all in the classroom.
She's ranked number 2 in here class with a 4.2 G.P.A. She's been named academic all district in all 3 sports, and she's a member of national honor society.
On top of that, Katy is the president of her class, she's an A honor roll student, and she's even one of the top students in her food sciences class. She can do it all, and do it all well.
"When I'm on the court, I focus on athletics. When I'm in class, I'm focused on my grades and school work," said Claytor. "If I take it one at a time, it gets easy."
"She just works hard every day. She's got her lap top, and she's working on her dual credit, or the assignment for the day," said Collinsville Consumer Sciences teacher Shannon Flanery. "She's just 100% a good student, and student athlete."
After she graduates, Katy plans to have a career in the nursing field.
