This week's A+ Athlete is Kendrick McAdams of Collinsville High School.
Kendrick is a member of national honors society, business professionals of America, he is ranked number 1 in his class with a 4.5 G.P.A. on a 4 point scale. He scored a 32 on his ACT, all while being super-involved with athletics and school activities.
"It's real hard to balance both football and academics, because football does take a lot of time," said McAdams. Mostly it takes sacrifices because, when you're in football, and it does take up so much time, you have to get rid of some things, so you can finish your school work, and do it right."
"He's got a competitive aspect to him," said Collinsville English teacher Zach Allen. "It's nice when other kids challenge him, or he feels challenged, instead of shirking away, he rises to it and finds a way to go above and beyond that challenge."
McAdams does love a challenge. He's a huge part of the Collinsville Pirates football team, a 1st team all-district selection. He's also a force in power-lifting and track and field, but it not's all about natural ability.
"You can have any skill, but the skill you really need as an athlete and a scholar, is hard work," said Mcadams. "You can do anything with hard work. Even if you're not naturally smart, if you have hard work, you can still get to that level."
"His work ethic is second to none, second to none of any kid I have ever coached," said Collinsville head football coach Dale West. "That's in every aspect, he works just as hard on the football field as he does in the classroom, or power lifting, or track, or whatever it is. Any teacher will tell you he is the model student, and any coach will tell you he is the model athlete."
