This week's A+ Athlete is Nick Reid of Anna High School. There's not much that Nick is not involved with. He is in the gifted and talented program, he's an officer in Beta Club, student council, the national honor society, and F.C.A. But he doesn't stop there. Nick is number 1 in his class with a G.P.A. of 4.29. Putting academics before everything else
"Education has been a huge role in my life. It's allowed me to do many great things, and hopefully even more things in the future," said Reid. "It's going to push me to be able to help others in the future, and I'm thankful for it."
"He already has his goals so I can already tell that this is what he wants, so he knows what he is striving for," said Anna math teacher Karen Bump. "With that in mind, he knows where he is going."
And Nick is just as involved out of the class room, taking part in just about every sport available. He's a 4-year member of the the coyote football team receiving academic all-district honors each of the last two years, he's played baseball and basketball, he runs track, and he is a state qualifier in power lifting.
"He goes 100 miles an hour every day, he gives his all every single day, both inside the classroom, outside the class room," said Anna track coach Jeremy Patton. "He constantly lifts other kids up and encourages them as well. He is one of those motivated kids, those inwardly motivated kids that wants to be the best in everybody else."
"I believe that if it's important to you, there is time for it," said Reid. "I also believe that if you can use what your coaches are teaching you, hard work and integrity, if you apply that to your academics as well, you will become not just a great athlete, but also a great scholar."
After graduation, Nick plans to join the Air Force Academy to pursue a career in military medicine.
