Dodd City Lady Hornets return to state, this time in softball

The Dodd City softball team will play in the state tournament this week, starting with the semifinals on Friday.

This is a Dodd City team whose record may not be that impressive (9-8), but they played in a tough 2A district all year, before entering the 1A playoffs.

Dodd City has tons of big game experience. They went to state two years ago in softball. Many of the girls on the team played on the basketball team that has been to state in the past three years in a row.

"We just have a great culture," catcher Delaney Pilliod said. "The coaches are just amazing. You know they have worked their hearts out to give us the success that we want and need. It's just really amazing to have this kind of program."

"We really just fight hard and we just really want it.," pitcher Tori Dotson said. "We really want to win. We have a lot of fight in us."

"The same kids play every single sport," head coach Dalton Herndon said. "They work hard every single day and when it comes down to it, they know how to win. They want to win, they are going to do everything they can to win games. It trickles down through athletics into academics and anything throughout this school."

Dodd City will face D'Hanis at 11AM at Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton on Friday.
