Durant's Ward stays local, signs with SOSU

It was signing day at Durant High School for track and field star Cassidy Ward.

Ward is headed just down the road to Southeastern Oklahoma State for her college experience. She has been a big part of the Durant powerlifting team and a huge part of the track team.

"I have so many people and family members that have supported me." Ward said. "It's just really exciting about going for 4 more years at Southeastern."

Ward is a three time state champion power-lifter for Durant. She helped lead the Lions to two team titles as well.

Cassidy was one of the four founding members of the Durant girls powerlifting team. She is now excited about joining an up-start track program at SOSU.

In track, Ward qualified for class 5A state tournament three times and placed at state in 2018.

She is active in her community volunteering at the Hands of Hope food bank and is an Honor Chord program member for the Oklahoma Blood Institute. She has a 3.74 grade point average.

Ward will throw shot put and discus for the Southeastern track team.
