Former Sherman Coach Hudspeth Passes Away

Former Sherman Bearcat Football Coach and Athletic Director Tommy Hudspeth has died at the age of 82.

Hudspeth, who led some great Bearcat football teams in the 70's, passed away yesterday after a battle with cancer.

Hudspeth coached for 20 years beginning at Weatherford High School, then moved to McKinney, Longview, Sherman and Mesquite. He finished his career with a record of 131-59-7 ties, including four undefeated seasons and a trip to the state championship game with McKinney in 1966.

After stepping away from coaching, Hudspeth turned towards administration. At Sherman ISD he served as Athletic Director, High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent and most recently Interim AD.

Hudspeth was elected to the THSCA Hall of Honor in 1985 and has also been inducted into the Weatherford High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the McKinney ISD Athletics Hall of Honor.
