Grayson hires new basketball coaches to lead re-launch of program

Grayson College has hired Scott Monarch to be the new head coach of the men's basketball team, and Bill Damuth to lead the women's team.

Grayson will bring back basketball since cutting the programs due to funding issues in 2011.

Scott Monarch will be the new men's coach. He comes to Grayson from Navarro College where he served as an assistant coach. Monarch has also been an assistant at North Texas and Marquette. He last served as a head coach at Panola College where he had tremendous success from 2000-2006, posting a 63 percent win percentage.

"It's a great opportunity," Monarch said. "Obviously it's important to the community, because they brought it back. They didn't have to do that. It's a great opportunity for me to be a head coach again."

Bill Damuth will take over the women's program after serving as an assistant coach at Wichita State. Damuth has also been an assistant at UTEP. He has been a head coach at Trinity Valley Community College and Hill College.

"It's something I couldn't pass up," Damuth said. "It's been 8 years since I've been a head coach. I'm a much better coach than I was 8 years ago. It's even more exciting to put some of that stuff that I've learned over the last 8 years into the program."

Both coaches were introduced at a press conference at Grayson College on Thursday.
