Muenster prepares to defend baseball title

The Muenster Hornets know a thing or two about going to state. They know quite a bit about winning at state too.

The Muenster baseball team returns to Round Rock on Wednesday, where the Hornets will face Woden in the state semifinals.

"It's exciting," head coach Josh Wheeler said. "I knew we could do it, getting back down there. I think anytime you get down there, it's a wonderful feeling for anyone. It's not easy to do."

A win on Wednesday would put Muenster in the finals on Thursday. The Hornets continue to play great baseball, including a 1-game series win against Bells last Friday.

"It's huge," outfielder Carson Trubenback said. "We like to think of ourselves as one of the best hitting teams in the state. It's always good to get runs, it helps our pitchers relax on the mound."

Muenster has a knack for putting up runs in the bunches. Now, they are just two wins away from the state championship repeat.

"We know we're a good hitting team," outfielder Stetson McGrew said. "Every at-bat we just know we have to put the bat on the ball, and put people on base, and score as many runs as we can."

"If we can score anywhere from 3 to 5 runs, I think we have a really good shot of winning," Wheeler said. "If we play good defense and pitch well."

The Hornets will begin play at 7 o'clock on Wednesday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock...
