Pottsboro, Van Alstyne ready for 3rd round meeting

We have a big important baseball series this week that features two Grayson County teams.

The Pottsboro Cardinals and Van Alstyne Panthers will meet in the third round of the high school baseball playoffs.

The series will begin in Anna on Thursday. Games 2 and 3 will be played on Friday, also in Anna.

These are two teams that know a lot about each other. Pottsboro won a previous meeting early in the season by a 1-0 score.

"You know everybody on that team," Pottsboro pitcher Coby Langford said. "We've played them once already. It's different. Usually when you play this round of the playoffs, you don't know anybody."

"It's really actually exciting for us," Van Alstyne outfielder Jake Carroll said. "We've played them before. We know the kids there. We played them in football and ran against them in track."

"We're all buddies," Pottsboro shorstop Hayden Kent said. "We've been talking to each other. We know this is a big match-up. We know that we are two of the better teams in the state and we just gotta play our game and hopefully we'll be alright."

"Going into it, we know alot about them from playing in years past," Van Alstyne shorstop Samuel Tormos said. "I think we are going to have a good chance to beat them."

"I really like our chances against them," Pottsboro 1st baseman Cooper Lyons said. "I think our bullpen is going to come in and do their thing. If we can get the sticks rolling, I think we should be pretty unstoppable."
