Sherman football player lives out his dreams

When Sherman took the field on Friday night, they were playing for a homecoming win over Justin Northwest, but what happened late in the match-up is what will be remembered as the play of the game.

With the crowd cheering his name, Walker Wedell, a Sherman football player with special needs, broke out of the huddle, took the ball, and ran it in for a ceremonial touchdown.

Wedell has been a member of the varsity football team for three years, and saw his dream of playing in a game, become a reality for the first time.

Even though the Sherman and Justin communities went into the game as opponents, they came together exhibiting sportsmanship to make that dream come true, showing everyone that sports is bigger than who wins, and who loses.
