The Coalgate girls basketball team made it to the state tournament for the first time in 48 years back in 2006.
Coalgate played Hinton in the quarterfnials. Teran Mixon was one of the stars on the team along with Mallory Walker and Jamaica Pebworth. Pebworth scored 15 points in the state quarterfinal game.
Jim Jenson was in his first year as the coach at Coalgate, but had won a state title at Alva before. Many of the girls on the team were a part of some of the state championship track teams at Coalgate.
Coalgate beat Hinton, 46-35, in front of a packed house at Midwest City. They were 26-3 on the year and would eventually lose out to Washington in the semifinals.
