Sports 12 Rewind Legends: Charlie Johnson
After a tremendous athletic career at Sherman, Charlie Johnson just kept getting better, all the way to the Super Bowl.
Johnson was a great one for Ronnie Tipps' Bearcats football team. He was a huge tight end, often used as a blocker. That continued into college where he played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Mike Gundy would slip him out for a touchdown every so often.
After a great career in Stillwater, Johnson was drafted in the 6th round by the Indianapolis Colts. He was moved to the left-tackle position to protect Peyton Manning. It worked. They won the Super Bowl. Johnson, along with another Sherman great, Colts punter Hunter Smith, would be teammates on the Super Bowl winning team.
Johnson was a multi-sport star at Sherman. He was a great basketball player. For a guy his size, his athleticism was incredible. Defenders had no idea what to do with him in the post.
