Sports 12 Rewind: Whitewright softball takes a big step toward state

The Whitewright Lady Tigers softball team took a big step toward the 2015 state tournament when they played another Grayson County powerhouse in Howe.

Whitewright and Howe faced off in the 4th round of the playoffs. Whitewright had won game 1 and was looking to advance to the regional finals in game 2.

Howe trailed 2-0 when Peyton Tinney hits a 3-run home run to put Howe in front.

In the 3rd, CJ Crane hit one through to score Anna Shope to tie the game at 3.

In the top of the 4th, Whitewright pitcher Tucker Caraway helped her own cause with a home run. That helped push Whitewright over the finish line with a 5-4 win.

Whitewright would go on to beat Pilot Point in the region finals, before losing out in the state semifinals. It would be Whitewright's first trip to state. Phil Shope was the coach at Whitewright.
