TRENTON, Texas -- Before last year the Trenton Lady Tiger softball program had never been to the Regional Finals. When they take the field on Thursday, they will have completed that feat two years in a row.
"I feel like it's been a tougher road for us to get here," Head Coach Jeremy Strickland said. "We've had to go through more hurdles, more adversity, to get here. It also makes it a little sweeter to get back here for a second year in a row."
Those hurdles, at least the big one, Bosqueville was cleared last Friday when Trenton scored two runs in the top of the 7th to win 3-1 against the team that ended their season two years in a row.
The next hurdle for the Lady Tigers, Crawford.
"They're a softball program with a ton of history," Strickland said. "They've won the games that we would like to win. We understand that our journey isn't over just because we got past Bosqueville. We're going to try to prepare to the best of our ability this week and hopefully play as well as we can this weekend."
"We're going to have to make sure we're not satisfied with where we are," Pitcher Jordan Withrow said. "We're going to have to push ourselves and be prepared for this next week."
After an emotional win, there's no celebrating it's back to work. Trenton is just two wins away from reaching the State Tournament for the first time in school history.
"We're at a point right now where I really don't have to say a whole lot, they understand what we're doing and where we are," Strickland said.
Game 1 for Trenton versus Crawford is 7 p.m. Thursday at North Crowley High School. Game 2 is 2 p.m. Saturday back at North Crowley. Game 3, if necessary, will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
