The Van Alstyne Panthers 4-by-400 relay team won the Class 3A title at the state track meet.

The team consists of Jake Carroll, Austin Moore, Cam Montgomery and Samuel Tormos.

"It's always kind of been our end goal," Caroll said. "We never really thought it was possible until after regionals. then (we realized) we might actually be pretty decent."

"I couldn't believe it because, obviously, the past couple of years we got 6th place," Moore said. "Once I saw Samuel cross the finish line in first place, I was like, oh my gosh, we just got first place in state."

"After we ran our best time of the year, it really felt like we had a chance to do something pretty special," Montgomery said. "Our times were up there in the state. I knew we had a chance of winning."

"When I saw him coming down, he was in first," Tormos said. "I was like, here we go, oh wow, we have a good chance of winning state."

A chance they fully took advantage of with a time of 3:19.
