For the second time in the last 4 years, the Van Alstyne Panthers are playing in the final week of the season, as they prepare for the state tournament.
It's been a total team effort getting to this point, the Panthers have good players in every aspect, pitching, fielding, and of course a very dangerous lineup.
The Panthers know if they want to bring a title back to Texoma, they will have to get off to a hot start.
"I mean, we need to go out there and have a good first inning," said Van Alstyne head coach Jimmy Haynes. "We don't need to go out there and play nervous or jittery because we're on a big stage. So, going out there in the first inning is huge."
"It's going to take a lot of focus. We have to all work together as one unit," said Van Alstyne third baseman Zach Smith. "If we do that, we have a really good shot at winning it all."
"I think we're resilient, we don't want to lose, that's the worst thing. We're winners," said Van Alstyne pitcher Chandler David. "You get a group of winners, and it's going to happen. You're not going to lose many games, especially being down in a lot of games, and close games. We're going to come through most of the time."
Van Alstyne will play Blanco in the state semi-finals on Friday at Dell Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
