SHERMAN, TX ― A Denison resident is one of four people appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice Advisory Committee this week. John Moore is a retired U.S. Marshal. Now he will work as an advocate for inmates with mental disorders and special medical needs.
Moore says many inmates with prior medical needs get progressively worse while incarcerated.
"[We want] to identify those people who are special needs people and to structure models and programs to assist them and then to identify the funding where that can be done in the most cost effective and safe way possible," Moore says.
Moore says the board will have their first meeting in the next few months.
