Campers enjoying new improvements at Lake Bonham

BONHAM, TX -- Lake Bonham's new and improved campgrounds are now officially open. The improvements cost Bonham between $150,000 to $200,000 dollars. Last year the city council unanimously approved the upgrades and after months of eagerly waiting campers can now enjoy the new sites.

For half a century Lake Bonham has served as a getaway for families across the country. Mark Mglaun and Blake Edwards have been setting up camp at the lake for several years and plan to continue.

"I mean look around. I mean it's just a beautiful view right here off this point from these campsites," Mglaun said.

"The kids enjoy it. They meet new friends out here and its just a real nice park," Edwards said.

Friday the 31 new campsites opened to the public and both the Mglauns and Edwards can't wait to take advantage of them.

"We're very excited about it. When we came in on Monday night we saw the new pads being poured and we're ready to get over there and try the new campsites," Edwards said.

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd says the new campgrounds are equipped with concrete pads, water hookups and pedestals that supply light and electricity -- including 20, 30, and 50 amp service.

"We needed to make these improvements because a lot of people wanted to camp out here but the electrical service just wasn't up to date," Floyd said.

Daisy Bush and her husband own The Java Joint and the Boom Boom Baitroom at Lake Bonham's campgrounds. Bush says she is excited about all the business the new sites will bring in.

"We will attract and we have attracted a different crowd to Bonham since we've been here. I've noticed that once people come in and look around its something that they weren't expecting," Bush said.

Those who are already enjoying what Lake Bonham has to offer say they cannot wait to see what else is in store for their favorite camping spot.

"I can't wait to see this next side to be completed. I think it's going to bring a whole lot of new campers out here," Edwards said.

It's $15 dollars a night to park your camper at Lake Bonham. If you would like to reserve a spot call the city. The link to their website is posted below.
