Denison man sentenced for property theft

DENISON, Texas -- A Denison man has been sentenced for stealing thousands of dollars worth of tools from a local business.

Maurice Grant, 46, was found guilty Tuesday for theft of property and took a plea deal for 18 years in prison.

Back in July, Grant stole a trailer and tool, totaling about $8,000, from James Fritts Contracting, on West Walker Street in Denison, then sold it all in Oklahoma.

Prosecutors say Grant didn't work for the business but lived in the area.

"I am very satisfied," said Assistant District Attorney Brett Smith. "Any time the district attorney's office prosecutes a case and gets a guilty verdict that's what we try to do, we want to see that justice is done."

When Grant accepted the plea deal he waived his rights to appeal.
