Sherman house fire may be suspicious

SHERMAN, Texas -- Sherman Fire Marshall Jamie Baggs says a Wednesday house fire at Rusk and Cherry streets is being investigated as suspicious because the home was vacant and there was no electricity or gas turned on at the home.

Currently, investigators don't know how it started.

The homeowners mother says her son, his wife and children had just moved out of the home about two weeks ago, but the left some property behind because it was irreplaceable.

"My children's baby books," said Martha Davis, the homeowner's mother. "My oldest son's baby book that had his umbilical cord, the first lock of hair that was ever cut off his head, the first tooth he ever lost."

One fireman had to be evaluated at the scene for symptoms of heat exhaustion.

The home is considered a total loss.
