New city alderman only 18

WHITESBORO, Texas (KXII) -- Graduation is rapidly approaching for many high school students, but before one Whitesboro senior walks across the stage, he was sworn in as a new city alderman.

18-year-old Cole Braun is one of the newest members to the Whitesboro City Council.

Earlier this spring, Braun signed up to run for a city alderman position.

He ran unopposed and won the seat.

Braun says he's excited to serve the community and be a voice for the youth.

"I just look forward to listening to the community's comments," Braun said. "I feel that I am just excited to be a part of this, and I'm ready to be involved."

Braun says he will keep his schedule open for council meetings scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month.

He plans to attend Grayson College, then get an agricultural business degree from Tarleton State University.
