Temple’s Five Goals Propel ’Roo Men’s Soccer to Win

Sam Temple scored five goals, including a first half hat trick, and Chris Melton added another as the Austin College men’s soccer team posted a dominant 6-0 victory over visiting Dallas Christian College on Saturday afternoon.

After 20 scoreless minutes to open things up, Temple tallied in the 22nd minute off of a long pass from Mason Waddell and three minutes later Temple ran down a cleared ball and punched it past the goalie for his second score of the game. In the 34th minute Temple scored again, this time off of a feed from Shedrick Davis to send the ’Roos into halftime leading 3-0.

Melton tallied off of assists from Andy Johnson and Chris Stein in the 55th minute to make it a four goal game and 10 minutes later Austin College drew two quick penalty kicks in less than a minute with Temple scoring both times to make it a 6-0 final.

Austin College out shot Dallas Christian 23-8 in the game with Grant Gosselin making four saves to combine with Russell Pompea for the shutout.

Next week the ’Roos kick off Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play when they host Birmingham-Southern on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Millsaps College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
