Denison star RB Jones not going to A&M

Former Denison running back D.J. Jones will not be playing college football at Texas A&M this year. Aggies coach Mike Sherman announced that he and Jones decided that it was best for Jones to return to Denison. Jones did not enroll for classes in the fall.

“I sat down with D.J. and we both came to the conclusion it was in his best interest to go back home and re-evaluate what it is he wants to do with his life,” Coach Sherman said. “I wish him nothing but the best and will help him anyway I can.”

Jones, a 5-11, 183-pound running back from Denison High School, was offered a scholarship last spring to play for the Aggies.

KXII has learned that Jones was charged with a Class A misdemeanor on theft of property on May 18, 2010. Class A theft misdemeanors range from $500 to $1500 in value. It is not immediately known if the charge was a factor in Jones' departure from Texas A&M.
