This week's A+ Athlete is Delaney Klas of S&S High School.
Delaney is an honor student that excels at cross country, where she is a regional qualifier and the captain of the Lady Rams team. For Delaney, running is like a box of chocolates.
"This is going to sound like Forest Gump, but I just love running," Klas said. "It's a team sport, but it's also an individual thing. You can excel on your own, but you can do it as a team too."
Delaney has a busy schedule helping out on her parents farm before and after school, showing livestock with the FFA, she also mixes in cross country practices, not to mention her school day and homework.
"Our practices are at six in the morning and we're on the course dressed and stretching ready to run," Cross Country Coach Sid Brannan said.
"And that's how all cross country programs are, but she has already taken care of their cattle, that run over 100 head, and she's fed them and taken care of them before she comes here. She still gets here in time to be the leader of the team."
In the classroom is where Delaney shines the brightestm she's 9th in her class and a member of national honors society. She has a 3.9 GPA and has earned many class awards in English, Algebra and World History.
"Delaney is an awesome student," Calculus teacher Raea Davenport said ."She does everything we ask of her. She makes great grades, comes in early and asks for help. She's very involved and maintains a very high average."
"If you're going to do something, you might as well do your best at it and give it your all," Klas said. "And if you don't think you can do your best and give it 110-percent than you might as well not even give it 10-percent."
And that's why Delaney Klas is this week's A+ Athlete.
