SADLER, Texas -- This week's A+ athlete comes to us from S&S High School. Wyatt Maher is ranked 6th in his class, serves as senior class president, and is a student who understands the value of a good education; and it shows.
"Getting a good education is number one on my priorities list," Maher said. "In order to be successful in my life at least, I need to get a good education. I need a four year college degree to get my desired job."
S&S math teacher Raea Davenport said Maher is an excellent student to have in class. "This is my second time to have Wyatt, and he's always worked really hard," she said. "He is a great math student, he has great work ethic and always turns in all of his work on time. He makes great grades and studies, and it's great to have kids like him in class."
Wyatt is also a big part of the Rams football team. He plays running back and linebacker. And the work ethic he shows in classroom, he shows when he's dressed out in pads as well.
"Wyatt's always been one of our hardest workers," S&S head football coach Garrett Patterson said. "He definitely works hard, tries to get better every day. He practices hard and does everything we ask him to do."
Maher equates playing sports to his sense of community. "I know everyone of these people like the back of my hand, and we all know we have each others back, and getting to play with them every Friday is just a blessing to me," he said.
Wyatt's also participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Beta Club, National Honor Society and is the president of the S&S FFA, he plans to head to Tarleton State University after he graduates in the spring, and he wants to become a game warden.
