ECU Baseball Falls In GAC Opener

The East Central University fell in to Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Great American Conference opener, 1-4, at Ken Turner Field.

The Tigers (0-10, 0-1 GAC) saw their lone runs scored by junior Riley Roberts on a solo home run.

Junior Dylan Sanchez threw the first seven innings of the game for ECU, allowing five hits and four runs (one earned) and striking out three.

Both teams were strong on defense through the first four innings, not allowing any runs to cross the plate. However, the Bulldogs (5-4, 1-0 GAC) took a 0-1 advantage in the top of the seventh.
SWOSU added three more runs in the top of the fifth to push the lead out to four (0-4).

Roberts got the Tigers on the board in the sixth, with a leadoff home run to right center and a 1-4 deficit.

ECU had more chances in the sixth and seventh to score, with runners on first and second, but were unable to capitalize and fell 1-4.

The teams will wrap up the three-game series, Saturday, Feb. 20 with a double header. A nine-inning game is set to start at noon and a seven-inning contest to follow at Ken Turner Field.
