Blue Tops White in Southeastern Scrimmage

Southeastern's Blue team bookended Thursday night's scrimmage with a total of four scoring drives, while the White team made five straight stops on defense and forced a turnover in between, but when the dust settled blue came out on top 28-24.

The teams were divided by offense and defense, with the Blue team comprised of the offensive players and the White made up of the defense.

Due to the arrangement, the game featured some modified scoring, with the offense scoring in its traditional ways, while the defense received six points for forcing a turnover, three points for a three-and-out and one point for keeping the offense off the scoreboard.

Blue opened the game with an impressive drive, with the second play going for 28 yards when Larry Cheeks took the handoff on the end around and took the ball across midfield.

Blue would convert on a third-and-two later in the drive and ultimately quarterback Ryan Polite would scamper 18 yards for the game's first points and a 7-0 lead after a PAT by Jake Walters.

White answered with a three-and out to make the score 7-3, but on the following Drive Nick Sioson converted on third-and-11 by connecting with Chance Grayson for a 66 yard touchdown pass and a 14-3 lead.

The following drive ended on a three-and-out, followed by three-straight one-point stops and then the third three-and-out of the night to cut the deficit to 14-12.

White would then take its first lead of the game on the next possession when Malique Earl forced a fumble as Blue was driving in White territory, which was recovered by Jarrett Ingram for six point and White would take an 18-14 lead.

Blue would answer on the next drive, first converting a third-and-14 with CB Cantwell hitting Ronnie Green on a screen pass that broke loose for 21 yards to the Blue 47 yardline.

Two plays later Cantwell would call his own number for a 29 yard pickup down to the White 24.

A pair of penalties would back Blue up, but on third-and-13, Cantwell found CJ Elkins for a 27 yard TD pass that put the offense back in front 21-18.

On the next drive it was a pair of big Nick Sioson passes, the first going for 48 yards to Tiquarrio Combs and the second coming two plays later when Sioson hit Conner Fuentes for a 19 yard touchdown and a 28-18 lead.

White would put up two more three-and-outs in a rally attempt, but Blue would hold on for the 28-24 victory.

Blue ran a total of 67 plays on the evening and racked up 449 total yards, including a 332 yard passing outing by the team's QB's on 21-of-33 passing combined.

Ryan Polite added a 7-of-11 performance for 58 yards, while Cantwell posted a 4-of-8 passing mark for 66 yards and a score.

Layton Dworaczyk was the top target on the night with three catches, while Grayson posted a team-best 72 yards and a touchdown on two catches.

Elkins and Fuentes each added a touchdown catch as well.

In all, 14 different receivers had receptions, with six of them hauling in more than one pass.
