Cordell out in Durant

Byron Cordell is out as the head coach of the Durant Lions.

Cordell was informed that Durant ISD would seek a new direction for it's football team. Cordell led the Lions to 37 wins in his 9 year tenure.

When Cordell arrived in Durant, the Lions achieved immediate success. He led the team to 5 playoff appearances in his first 6 seasons. Durant has missed the playoffs in each of the past 3 years. The Lions were just 1-9 in 2014.

"Durant has been great," Cordell said. "I've been very lucky. We have had great kids and I can't ask for anything more."

Cordell is a Durant graduate and would prefer to stay in the area.

Durant will now launch it's coaching search.
