The East Central University soccer team has a long tradition of success in the classroom and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has recognized the 2013-14 edition of the Tigers for that success with the NSCAA Team Academic Honor for the 11th straight season.
"I'm extremely proud of the ladies and the effort put forth to be recognized with this award," said head coach Riley Bailey. "They have proven every year that they are so much more than just athletes and they place their academic achievements above everything else. As a program we always talk about putting 100% effort into everything we do and this award definitely testifies to that."
In 2013-14 the Tigers garnered a team GPA of 3.30, making them one of 861 schools from all levels of collegiate and high school soccer to be honored by the NSCAA. ECU is one of three schools from the Great American Conference to earn the award this season and has the most honors at 11 by any GAC school.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
