ECU Softball Drops Doubleheader to No. 5 Arkansas Tech

ADA - The East Central University softball team dropped two games to No. 5 Arkansas Tech in the first of two doubleheaders at Tiger Field in Great American Conference action. The Tigers (14-15, 11-7 GAC) first fell 0-9 (6) and then 1-4.

ECU was led by junior Carlee Henderson, with a .333 average in two games. Senior Jordynn VanPelt earned the lone RBI for the day with a double.

Senior Marissa Shaffer recorded five strikeouts in the second game of the day, while suffering the loss.

The teams will wrap up the series, Sunday, March 20 starting at noon at Tiger Field.

ATU 9, East Central 0 (6)
Both teams were held scoreless in the opening game of the day until the third inning, when the Golden Suns (23-2, 15-1 GAC) took a 0-5 advantage and never looked back.

ATU added a run in the fourth and three in the sixth to take a 0-9 lead. In the bottom of the sixth the Tigers got their first hits of the game, but were unable to get a runner across the plate.

ATU 4, East Central 1
The second game of the day started much like the first, with no team scoring until the third inning. That is when the Golden Suns tallied two runs for the lead.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning to cut the disadvantage in half (1-2). Freshman Madison Thompson started the inning by drawing a walk and was sent to second on a wild pitch. Senior Taylor Davis moved the runner to third with a ground out and VanPelt earned her RBI with a groundout to short.

ATU responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 1-4. ECU was then sent back to the dugout in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
