Saturday, Dec. 6 East Central University men's cross country junior Juan-Joel Pacheco Orozco will get to experience something that a few select Tiger student-athletes have achieved when he participates in the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championship race.
The 2014 USTFCCCA and NCAA All-Central Region selection became just the third individual from ECU to earn a spot in the national championship race and the first since 2006 when Koby Styles qualified. He is also the first student-athlete to compete in a national championship event since 2011 when the men's cross country team placed 11th at the national meet.
Pacheco Orozco will start the 10K course, Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The cross country championships are part of the 2014 NCAA DII Fall Festival hosted by Bellarmine University. All of the fall championships will be contested in Louisville between Dec. 4-6 with opening and closing ceremonies for the event also taking place at 4th Street Live in downtown Louisville.
The 2014 Great American Conference Male Runner of the Year, earned his spot in the national championship race by finishing seventh at the 2014 NCAA Central Regional (Nov. 22) in a time of 31:30.7. Pacheco Orozco was the first of three individual qualifiers from the region.
