RICHMOND, Va. -- A friend of Moses Malone says the Hall of Fame basketball player saw a doctor about an irregular heart beat less than a week before he died.
Malone was found dead in a Norfolk hotel Sunday morning. He was 60.
Kevin Vergara told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that Malone went to a doctor in Houston last Tuesday after he felt his heart skip a beat during a workout. Vergara said the doctor found nothing wrong but gave Malone a heart monitor.
Vergara said Malone was wearing the monitor when he found him in the hotel room after the former NBA star failed to show up for breakfast or answer his phone.
According to Vergara, Malone maintained a healthy diet and worked out regularly.
