Gunter prepares for regional final

The Gunter Tigers continue to churn out wins and advance deeper in the playoffs.

"This is the time to start peaking. And I feel like that's exactly what were doing, were coming together as a team," said Garrett Hunter.

"The teams that get hot at the right time are the ones that make the deep playoff runs and I mean were just getting hot at the right time," said Nate Yansky.

Head coach Jake Fieszel is seeing his team click on all cylinders. The offense scored over 45 points for the second time this postseason while the defense didn't allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter against S&S.

"Were seeing improvement every single week," said head coach Jake Fieszel. "And you know, that's what you got to do this time of year. The teams that continue to improve are giving themselves an opportunity to play another week."

The win over their district rival push Gunter into the Regional Final, making it their third appearance in the past five seasons to reach the fourth round.

Gunter will now face Waskom, the number two team in the Class 3A. The Wildcats are 12-and-1 including their last win over Howe scoring 71 points.

"We love to play any tea," said Yansky. "We could play Cisco right now, we love to play it. There's not one team were scared of. We'll just go out there and hit, run the ball, throw the ball, it's just another game."

"We know they have play-makers, and their going to make big plays and get their points," said Hunter. "But what we need to do, we need to limit those points and limit the big plays, come out there with the right mindset and move the ball offensively."

Gunter and Waskom will kick-off in Van this Friday at 7:30.
