East Central University baseball seniors Ty Huie and Oscar Gomez have both earned Great American Conference player of the week honors for April 13. Huie was named GAC Player of the Week, while Gomez claimed Co-Pitcher of the Week honors.
Huie proved to be a near impossible out in the Tigers' three-game series against Arkansas-Monticello. He went 7-for-8 in the series with the Boll Weevils and registered a .900 on-base percentage. He homered, tripled, scored four runs and drove in three in the series while recording three multi-hit games. He added two stolen bases.
Gomez tossed his second complete game of the year as he limited Arkansas-Monticello to just one unearned run in a 3-1 victory. He allowed only six hits in the victory. He struck out 10 to now rank fourth in the conference. He also ranks in the top five in earned run average and opponent's batting average.
The Tigers will now prepare for a non-conference double-header, Tuesday, April 14 at Oklahoma City starting at 4 p.m.
