Legendary Denison broadcaster passes at 86

Long time Denison broadcaster Commodore Wood has died at the age of 86.

Wood was a popular long time broadcaster that served as the voice of the Denison Yellow Jackets for over three decades. He had either worked or attended every Battle of the Axe rivalry game featuring Denison and Sherman between 1953 and 2005.

Raised in Tishomingo, Wood moved to the Denison area in 1953 and broadcasted several different sports on the radio. He broadcasted almost every school within a 50 mile radius over his career as well.

Wood often helped student athletes in their pursuit of college scholarships. He was involved with the Denison Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.
