Oklahoma State announces new assistant basketball coach

Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford has announced the hiring of former University of San Diego head coach Bill Grier as an assistant coach on the Cowboys' staff.

Ford said Grier is considered a top recruiter and defensive coach.

Grier spent the past eight seasons at San Diego and led the team to the 2008 NCAA Tournament and a first-round win over No. 4 seed Connecticut. He was fired in March after going 117-144 overall at San Diego, including 15-16 last season. Before going to San Diego, Grier was an assistant at Gonzaga.

His hiring is pending approval by the OSU Board of Regents.
