Ramsey Named Austin College Baseball Coach

Mike Ramsey has been named the new head baseball coach at Austin College, athletics director David Norman has announced. Ramsey, who played at the minor league level for the Cincinnati Reds, is the co-owner and operator of the Texoma Baseball Academy.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mike to Austin College,” said Norman. “With his tremendous background as an elite player and as a respected local coach and instructor, he brings an outstanding pedigree to our baseball program.”

Ramsey is a 1985 graduate of Texas Christian University, where he starred for the Horned Frogs on his way to being selected as an All-American. He was also named Academic All-America, and still holds several records at TCU. Ramsey was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds following his collegiate career, and later moved into coaching. He has worked as an instructor and coach for more than 25 years.

Ramsey earned his master’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Studies from the University of Houston in 1993. From 1989-1994, he served as the athletics director for the Episcopal School in Houston before moving into the business world with the Neff Company in Greenville, Ohio, from 1995-2003. Ramsey returned to Texas in 2003 to work as a marketing consultant for The Ball Fields at Craig Ranch in McKinney through 2004.

In 2007, he co-founded the Texoma Baseball Academy in Denison, where he has trained hundreds of baseball and softball players from all over north Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. He is also an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the TCU Letterman’s Association.
