SE Opens Series with 6-4 Win Over SNU

Southeastern used a 10 hits day at the plate to open its three-game series against Southern Nazarene with a 6-4 win on Friday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 13-10 overall on the season and 7-6 in Great American Conference play, moving back above .500 in league play for the first time since winning the conference opener on Feb. 15.

The series will conclude on Saturday afternoon with a double-header slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Four Southeastern hitters posted two-hit days at the plate, with Ryan Salter, Tucker Alexander, Troy McCartney and Chevis Springer each posting multi-hit outings, while Travis Caraway and Trevor Bowen each added a hit.

Evan Ramsey, Alexander, Caraway, McCartney and Springer each drove in a run.

The Storm stole six bases on the contest, led by Salter's three swipes which brings his league-leading total to 21.

Eddie Cervantes got the start for SE and tossed 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts before handing the ball to Levi Lewis.

Lewis would pick up the win in relief with 1.2 innings of scoreless work in which he allowed just one hit and struck out one.

Cameron Mann then came on for his sixth save of the season, tossing 2.0 innings and allowing a run on two hits with a pair of K's.

Salter opened the game with a double and set the tone for the day by swiping third base before coming home two batters later on an Alexander double to left center.

Two batters after that, the lead would expand to 2-0 on a McCartney squeeze play that scored Ramsey.

Later in the third inning, Caraway pushed the lead to 3-0 with a double down the left field line that plated Ramsey.

SNU would answer, however, with a two-run effort in the fifth and a solo homer in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.

The Storm would regain the lead in the seventh when Ramsey squeezed home Bowen to make the score 4-3.

It would extend during the next at bat when Salter would steal third and home to push the advantage to 5-3.

Springer would bring home SE's final run in the eighth on a single that scored McCartney for a 6-3 lead.

SNU would answer with a run in the top of the ninth, but Mann would hold them off for the 6-4 win.
