SE Sweeps Bulldogs, Closes on Conference Lead

Southeastern completed a series sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State on Monday by sweeping a double-header in much the same way it did on Sunday, taking game one in a pitcher's duel 3-0 before running away with a 13-6 win in the finale in Weatherford, Okla.

The wins lift the Savage Storm to 29-18 overall on the year and 23-7 in Great American Conference play, leaving them one game back of Henderson State for first place in the standings heading into a four-game series between the two with a regular season conference championship on the line April 24-25 in Arkadelphia, Ark.

In the opener it was a pitcher's duel reminiscent of the series opener, with Jessica Seay picking up the complete game shutout after scattering five hits over seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts to pick up her 13th win of the season.

Arianna Jones added three hits to lead the offense, while Jessica Simmons chipped in a pair. Sydney Kramer, Haley Strawn and Ashley Moore each added one.

Simmons, Kramer and Jones each drive in a run as well.

Simmons put SE on the board with an RBI single in the third inning that scored Darrian Williams.

Kramer added a run to that with an RBI infield single in the sixth and Jones tripled home Breanna Smith in the seventh to mount the 3-0 lead which would hold to be the final.

The finale saw a boost of offense as five different players for the Storm posted multi-hit outings with Jones going 3-for-5, while Simmons, Kramer, Beal and Strawn each added two hits.

Strawn connected on her sixth homer of the season, while Kramer and Beal each drove in four runs. Simmons and Strawn added two RBI each.

Jacee Bennett collected her 14th win after allowing a pair of runs on six hits with one strikeout over 4.1 innings pitched.

Moore came on to finish the game and allowed four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings.

A Beal groundout and a Strawn single each brought in runs in the top of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead.

SWOSU answered with a run in the bottom half, but a Kramer RBI groundout in the second stretched the lead to 3-1.

The Bulldogs answered with a run in the bottom of the second and would take a 5-3 lead with a three run outburst in the third.

The Storm answered by knotting the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning on RBI doubles by Kramer and Beal.

SE would explode for five runs in the fifth thanks to an RBI single by Simmons and two-run doubles by Kramer and Beal again to take a 10-5 lead.

Jones would come home on an error in the sixth followed by an RBI single by Simmons for a 12-5 lead.

SWOSU would add a run in the bottom of the sixth, but a solo homer by Strawn would cap the day's scoring and the 13-6 win by the Storm.
