SE Swept in Midweek Twinbill at UAFS

Southeastern saw its three-game winning streak comt to an end with a pair of losses in a midweek twinbill at Arkansas-Ft. Smith, dropping the opener 8-4 before falling in the nightcap 17-10 in Ft. Smith, Ark. on Tuesday afternoon.

The losses drop the Savage Storm record to 13-16 overall heading into an off weekend before returning to action April 6 on the road against Oklahoma Christian at 6 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.

Dylan Helms and Corban Taylor each recorded a pair of hits in the first game, with Kaleb Thomas, Jacob Soisson, Conner Koepp and Brayon Colley adding one each as the Storm outhit UAFS 8-to-4 despite the final score.

Thomas, Koepp and Connor Counce each drove in a run.

Evan Sanders got the start and took the loss after tossing two-thirds of an inning and allowing four runs on one hit with two strikeouts and five walks.

Cody Luman came on in relief and allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit with a pair of K's in 2.1 innings pitched.

Logan Terwilliger finished the game with 3.0 innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout.

UAFS took an early lead in the opener with a four-run first inning before adding a run in the second and another in the third to open up a 6-0 lead.

The Storm responded in the top of the fourth with a leadoff single by Soisson and a walk by Grimsley before each moved up a base on steals.

Soisson would then come home on a Counce groundout to second, with Grimsley scoring one batter later on a Koepp single to left.

After a Colley single, Koepp would score on a Thomas single down the right-field line to close the gap to 6-3.

The Lions would add two more runs to their total in the fifth to make the score 8-3, and Helms would answer in the top of the seventh by scoring on a wild pitch, but SE was unable to mount a rally, falling 8-4.

The nightcap was not any better for SE as the Storm opened with leads of 2-0 and 5-1 before an eight-run inning by UAFS opened the flood gates and led to a 17-10 loss for Southeastern.

Helms, Soisson, and Koepp picked up a pair of hits each, while six others added one apiece.

Thomas, Helms and Greg Husnander drive in two runs each, while Taylor, Soisson, Collin Sefcik and Colley added one RBI apiece.

Keyton Jameson got the start but tossed just 1.0 innings after allowing a run on no hits with four walks before giving way to Brady Colbert who tossed 1.1 innings and allowed a run on a hit with three strikeouts.

Mathew Benedict came on to pitch in the third and was handed the loss after facing five batters and allowing five runs on three hits.

Taylor would finish the inning and toss a total of 2.0, allowing seven runs on 10 hits before Terwilliger would make his second appearance of the day and toss the final 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

A Helms double and a Husnander sac fly in the first inning staked the Storm to a 2-0 lead.

The Lions would get a run back, but a Husnander bases-loaded walk, followed by a Soisson RBI single and a Sefcik sac fly would push the lead out to 5-1 midway through the third.

UAFS would answer with eight runs in the bottom half of the third to take an 8-5 lead.

The Storm found an answer with a Thomas RBI triple, followed by RBI doubles from Helms and Taylor to knot the game at 8-8.

The Lions would regain the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and add three each in the fifth and the sixth.

SE would add a sac fly by Thomas in the fifth and an RBI single by Colley in the seventh to fashion he final of 17-10.
