Southeastern Women's Hoops Open Season Picked 4th

Southeastern women's basketball will open the 2014-15 season picked to finish in a tie for fourth with rival East Central in the Great American Conference preseason poll.

The Savage Storm are coming off a 13-14 season in which they posted a 10-10 conference record and fell to Arkansas Tech in the first round of the conference tournament.

SE returns five of its top six scorers, including leading scorer and first team All-GAC selection Emily Williams who posted 15.9 ppg.

The team also returns Haley Schaefer who turned in 10.4 ppg, as well as Taylor Richards who turned in 6.0 ppg and led the team in assists, Cheree Kiser who also added 6.0 ppg and Kaylie Baxter who averaged 5.2.

Williams is also the team's top returning rebounder after pulling down 7.4 rpg a season ago, while Schaefer added 6.4.

Southeastern collected 58 points to tie with ECU in the poll, five points ahead of Southern Nazarene.

Harding is the preseason favorite with 99 points and nine of the 11 first place votes.

Arkansas Tech was second with 86 points and one first place vote, edging out Southwestern Oklahoma State who was third with 85 points and the final first place vote.

Southern Arkansas was seventh with 50 points, followed by Henderson State, Ouachita Baptist, Northwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas-Monticello.

Southeastern will open the 2014-15 season with an exhibition against Oklahoma in Norman at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, with the regular season opener coming on Nov. 14 in Tahlequah, Okla., when it faces Central Oklahoma at noon to open the MIAA/GAC Challange.
