RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – One the eve of the 2015 Great American Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, the league announced its All-GAC team and the individual superlative awards.
Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Maxim Fil picked up the Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards.
His coach, Shawn Hamil, captured his second GAC Coach of the Year honor.
Fil posted a 14-3 record, 11-3 at the No. 1 singles position. He went undefeated in his GAC singles matches. In the most recent ITA Central Region rankings he paced all GAC players, ranked third.
Hamil coached the Savage Storm to a second-straight undefeated GAC regular-season championship and he has Southeastern ranked fourth in the most recent NCAA Division II Central Region poll.
Two additional Savage Storm players, Alberto Blesa and Tiago Ferreira landed on the All-GAC team. They partnered to form the No. 6 doubles team in the Central Region.
In singles play, Blesa went 11-7, mostly at the No. 2 slot to rank No. 14 in the region. Ferreira posted a 12-5 mark at No. 3 singles.
