SOSU picks up vote in national poll

For the first time since 2009 Southeastern opens the football season receiving votes in the AFCA Division II Preseason Coach's Poll released on Monday.

The Savage Storm are receiving one vote in the poll and are one of five Great American Conference schools represented in the poll.

SE heads into head coach Bo Atterberry's second season at the helm after posting the program's first winning season since 2009, finishing 7-5 and earning the team's first postseason berth in a decade with a trip to the Texarkana Live United Bowl.

The Storm is also picked to finish fourth in the GAC Preseason poll.

Ouachita Baptist is the highest ranked league school at No. 12, while Harding checks in at No. 21.

Henderson State and East Central join SE in receiving votes.

SE returns 15 players on offense and defense who saw starting action a season ago with a team that averaged 30.4 ppg while piling up 405.2 yards of offense per outing, while the defense forced 25 turnovers.

The Storm open the 2015 season on Sept. 3 when it hosts Henderson State at the newly-surfaced Paul Laird Field at 6 p.m.
