Sherman's head football coach resigns

SHERMAN, TX -- Sherman Head Football Coach Gary Kinne has announced his resignation.

In a joint statement released by Sherman ISD, the district said "Coach Kinne and the District wish to acknowledge and recognize the staff, students, parents and constituents who have all contributed to the District's sports program during Coach Kinne's tenure. The District extends its best wishes to Coach Kinne in his future endeavors."

Back in October, Kinne was relieved of his duties as Sherman's Athletic Director. He was suspended for one game during the 2013 football season after the UIL found he had violated rules concerning his involvement in a 7-on-7 tournament in Arkansas.

In November, Sherman hired former football coach Tommy Hudspeth to serve as the new interim athletic director.

Sherman ISD says the district will soon begin its search for a new head football coach as not to disrupt the District's athletic programs.

Kinne had been the head football coach of the Sherman Bearcats since 2009.
