SILO, OK - The Silo High School coach accused of beaning his players with baseballs last year has resigned.. 43-year-old Roy West said in a letter at last night's school board meeting it was "in the best interest of everyone" for him to step down. His resignation is effective immediately.

West was arrested last September after an investigation revealed he allegedly struck players in the back, legs, arms, or torso with baseballs for "inadequate performance."

The Bryan County Sheriff's Office started investigating West last April after parents came forward about the alleged abuse.

West faces seven counts of child abuse. He's due back in court next month.
