Softball Set for UAM Road Trip

No. 5 Southeastern will get its first shot at claiming the lead in the Great American Conference standings when it hits the road to take on league-leading Arkansas-Monticello in a four-game series on March 15-16 in Monticello, Ark.

The double-header on Friday is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch, while the Saturday twinbill is set for noon.

The Savage Storm dropped three spots in this week's NFCA Division II top 25 after going 2-2 against Henderson State this past weekend which dropped the Storm to 21-6 overall on the season and 6-2 in league play.

SE comes in with a .298 team average which is third in the conference as a team, led by Courtney Moore who has piled up a .389 average with four home runs and 22 RBI, which is good for fourth in the GAC.

She leads a foursome of .300 hitters, with Jessica Simmons next in line at .348 while also leading the team and the conference in runs scored with 26 and stolen bases with 23.

Lacie Cook is next with a .324 average that has climbed since moving into the top third of the lineup, while Rachel Jones is hitting .317 with three doubles and nine RBI.

The Storm pitching staff is also third in the GAC with a staff ERA of 2.87, while also the lowest opponent's batting average at .253 and the most saves with nine.

The duo of Mindy McElroy and Jacee Bennett have been fairly dominant against opposing hitters.

McElroy leads the team with a 1.58 ERA and an opponent's average of .235, while posting a 9-2 record and four saves.

Bennett checks in with a 2.93 ERA, but leads the team with an 11-3 record and five saves.

Bennett has also posted 90 strikeouts which is good for second in the league.

UAM comes into the weekend with an 18-10 record overall and a 5-1 mark in conference play, but has lost four-of-its-last-seven.

The Cotton Blossoms are led by Maggie Sands who is hitting .420 on the season, while Beth Jonson and Brittany Eitel check in with averages of .358 and .300, respectively.

Johnson leads the team with six home runs and 22 RBI, while Randa Perry is right behind with three homers and 21 RBI.

Perry leads the team in appearances and starts as well as complete games, but has a 7-7 record on the season with a 2.54 ERA.

Katie Slaughter has a 9-2 mark on the year with a 1.77 ERA.
