Sotheastern Headed to UT-Tyler to Open Season

Southeastern's cross country team will open up the 2013 season with a 5K run at the UT-Tyler Invitational in Tyler, Texas at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 6.

The meet opens the 2013 season for the Savage Storm as well as the Ron Hair era as head coach after taking over the position in March, replacing Dr. Brad Ludrick.

The Savage Storm returns all but two runners from a season ago, including junior Kayla Sanders who paced the Storm in every race last season, including a 5K best time of 21:34.88 at the MSSU Southern Stampede.

Shelby Fraser is the team's lone returning senior, while Shannon Lee and Sanders return as juniors, Cheyenne Buck and Tabitha Oglesby come back as sophomores.

SE added six new runners this season, including Kayle Reaves who will run her first season of cross country as a senior after a four-year career for the Storm women's basketball team.

She is joined by a group of five freshmen in Amanda Kirby, Tracie Lee, Haylee Story, Bailee Weger and Kathleen Williams.

Southeastern will be in action the first four weekends of the season, next heading to the UTA Season Opener in Arlington, Texas on Sept. 14, followed by the Louisiana Tech Mook 5 Invitational in Ruston, La., Sept 21 and the UNT Ken Garland Invitational Sept. 28 in Denton, Texas.

SE will run in a total of six regular season meets before heading to the Great American Conference championship meet on Oct. 26 in Russellville, Ark.
