State track meet a huge success for Texoma area athletes

Whitesboro's Nic Butts sweeps the distance events, leading the way to a huge state track meet for the Texoma area.

Butts won the gold medal in the 1600 meters on Friday night, just 24 hours after winning the 3200 meters and setting a state track meet record.

Butts' Whitesboro teammate, Jake Dyer won the gold medal in the shot put. Whitesboro finished 4th in the Class 3A standings as a team. Brent Chaney finished 6th in the 300 hurdles. Ruth Leach finished 4th in the 800 to round out Whitesboro's great day.Lauren Purdom and Mikayla Morris both received bronze medals on Thursday for the Bearcats.

The Leonard Lady Tigers relay team stole the show in the 800 meter relay. Leonard easily finished 1st to take the gold. Leonard's Kelcie Simmons finished 2nd in the long jump.

Pottsboro sprinter Myles Mitchusson finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash. The Pottsboro boys 1600 meter relay team finished 4th, the girls finished 9th. Olivia Zint was 4th in the 1600 meters for Pottsboro.

North Lamar high jumper Baylee Chappell won a gold medal. Whitewright's Zada Swoopes earned the silver in shot put.

Gunter's Tyler Buysse won the gold medal in the wheel chair 100 meters and 400 meters.

Celina's Lauren Shultz brought home the bronze in discus with a throw of BLANK. Teammate Andrew Norman finished 5th in the 100-meter dash.

Wolfe City's Kenya Smith placed 5th in the 100 and 7th in the Long Jump.

Blue Ridge hurdler Jacob Stroup finished 8th in the 110-hurdles.

Savoy's Alex Caldwell brought home the silver in the 100 meters witha time of 11.34 seconds. He also finished 8th in the 200. His running mate Matthew Thigpen ran the 200 as well, finishing 5th.

Elsewhere in 1A, Dodd City's Paige Granstaff was 9th in the 100-meter dash and the Tioga Boys 1600-meter relay finished 6th and the 800-meter relay team finished 7th.
