The Southeastern men's basketball team opened Great American Conference play at home Thursday night with a 73-65 win over Arkansas Monticello.
Southeastern (2-1, 1-0 GAC) outscored UAM 12-4 over a period of four minutes to get on top by 10 points with 9:34 remaining in the game.
Southeastern shot 51 percent from the field (27-for-53), 35 percent on three-pointers (8-for-23) and 52 percent on foul shots (11-for-21).
Southeastern out-rebounded UAM 39-25, including an 18-11 edge on the offensive glass. The Savage Storm used those offensive rebounds for a total of 20 second-chance points. Southeastern's Sami Bzai hit six three-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points.
